Sports Physicals - Annual Check-Ups and IHSAA Rules

Friday, March 28, 2014

Believe it or not, the time has arrived to begin thinking about sports physicals for the 2014-15 school year.

Any physical done after April 1 including your annual check-up will count for next year’s season.

Point 1: Any athlete with sports PE or annual check-up after April 1, 2013 is eligible to continue participating in any sport until July 31, 2014.

Point 2: For an athlete to begin official practice for any sport after Aug 1, 2014 they must have sports PE or annual check-up after April 1, 2014.

While the school based mass screening type exams provide an adequate cost effective option, we feel strongly that you should consider continuing to get your exams through Northpoint Pediatrics.  We have access to your child’s medical record and can review injuries and illnesses sustained over the past 12 months.

Most important of all, we feel that by developing a relationship with a primary care provider, your teen can begin to have an open discussion with us regarding healthy food and beverage options, relationships, puberty, mental health issues, and peer pressure.  Now is the time to call and set up an appointment as many fall sports begin practice August 1 and require an up to date physical to begin practice.
